Tracking winter threats shifting early this week

TODAY: Extreme cold comes to an end this morning but wind chills remain well below freezing all day. As arctic air departs, rain will be right on its heels tonight and could cause icy roads for tomorrow morning.

TOMORROW: Freezing rain begins early Monday morning with road and surface temperatures below freezing. How long it takes us to warm above freezing is the greatest uncertainty with this forecast. Currently, freezing rain is expected to last nearly until noon for much of Mid-MO and could persist longer if colder temperatures pan out. A glaze of around 0.1" will make travel tricky, but limit infrastruce impacts. For more details on this ice visit the ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day Blog.

EXTENDED: Once temperatures eventually warm above freezing on Monday, precipitation will switch to nonfreezing rain. We're tracking several more chances for rain this week but some dry time likely in between. Temperatures will be cold but much better than recently with highs in the low 40s.
