Tracking rain and snow as temperatures drop Thursday
TONIGHT: Increasing clouds with lows falling into the upper 30s to around 40 along with gusty winds.
TOMORROW: Showers move in early, with falling temperatures as winds pick up from the northwest. Temperatures start out in the mid-40s then fall into the low 30s through late afternoon. A few snow showers will be possible on the back side of the front by late afternoon, but little to no impact is expected.
EXTENDED: We fall into the lower 20s on Friday morning, rebounding to near 40 with partial sunshine during the day. Much colder air starts moving in by Saturday as we’ll continue to have strong winds from the northwest. Highs only make it to the upper 20s with wind chills in the teens. Along with the cold air, we’ll be tracking a disturbance that could bring light accumulating snow on Saturday afternoon. Right now amounts look low, but I’d rather give it more time to mail down specifics tomorrow since these clipper systems can be somewhat fickle. Another wave could bring a few snow showers to northern MO on Sunday, but most of the area just stays brutally cold. Temperatures Sunday morning will be in the low single digits with wind chills 5 to 7 degrees below zero through mid-late morning. Highs only make the mid-teens with wind chills in the single digits during the day. We may need to extend a Weather Alert Day into Monday morning for wind chills near or just above zero. I’m also watching the potential for more snowfall Monday into Tuesday, but won’t put a ton of stock into it until the system gets onshore. Overall, next week looks to start off colder than normal and potentially active.
