Tracking cold air that sticks around

TODAY: Friday will be noticeably colder as soon as you set foot out the door. Temperatures in the 30s to start the day, will only climb to near 40 this afternoon. Throw in a 10-15 mph wind, gusting in the 20s at times, and wind chills will make it feel like 20 to 30 degrees at best this afternoon. After light rain early this morning, some sun will break out late this morning and afternoon, so keep the sunglasses around.

TONIGHT: Temperatures drop into the 20s overnight, with continued north wind around 5-10 mph. Also from the north, a low cloud deck moves in as we get some wrap around moisture from the parent low that brought us all of this cold air in the first place.
EXTENDED: We'll start Saturday mostly cloudy, and in the 20s. With a blanket of low clouds trying to hold on, we may see temperatures suffer even more than forecast, but as of now, temperatures are forecast to climb into the upper 30s. Wind chill values will again reside in the 20-30 degree range through the day. With the deck of low clouds lingering through the day, and the cold air in place, it will be possible to see a few flurries, or a spit of snow. Still, moisture is very slim, so few flurries would be generous. No accumulation is expected. At the same time, Saturday morning will bring a chance at a wintry mix to folks southeast of mid-Missouri. If you have travel plans to the bootheel, you may run into some snow trying to mix with rain early Saturday. Still, no accumulation is likely here, and again it avoids mid-Missouri. Sunday looks dry, with some chance at sunshine warming us into the 40s. Monday brings a chance of wintry mix, with a system arriving in the evening, and potentially lasting into the early hours Tuesday. We'll see a chance at light snow, with the possibility of accumulations but that is not certain at this point. It looks like this system will have the greatest impact south of I-70, but exact placements are currently unknown. Temperature forecasts have highs in the 40s, so impacts will likely be minimal and short lived, but stay tuned to the forecast for updates as we get closer. Cold air sticks around the majority of next week.
