Tracking cool temperatures, potential wintry weather later this week
TONIGHT: Decreasing clouds, but it's cold with lows falling into the lower 20s.
TOMORROW: Mostly sunny and warmer with highs in the upper 40s.
EXTENDED: This evening is chilly as skies begin to clear out overnight, bringing temperatures down below freezing into the lower 20s. High pressure over the Plains begins to migrate into the Midwest Tuesday and Wednesday, allowing temperatures to warm into the upper 40s to lower 50s with more sunshine. A cold front begins to work into the region Thursday into Friday, bringing a chance of precipitation beginning late Thursday through Friday morning. Given the evening temperatures, there's a chance some of it could fall as wintry precipitation, but impacts are still somewhat uncertain due to the timing. If precipitation moves in during the day, there's a better chance of it being more rain before cooler air moves in. If more precipitation falls in the evening with temperatures below freezing, we could end up with some accumulating snow. Impacts will be somewhat more limited due to the higher sun angle this time of year and warmer ground temperatures. Behind this system, much cooler than average air sticks around Friday and Saturday as highs only reach the lower to mid-30s. We'll end the weekend with highs in the mid-upper 50s as winds shift back to the southwest.
