Tracking another warm and windy Tuesday before storms return Wednesday

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy and breezy with gusts up to 20 mph. Lows in the upper 50s.

TOMORROW: Warm and windy with highs getting near 80 once again. Strong south winds with gusts up to 30 mph during the day.

EXTENDED: I'm tracking a cold front that will move in from the west late Tuesday into Wednesday, sending potentially two rounds of rain and storms our way. The first round will be more intense across eastern Kansas on Tuesday night and should weaken considerably by the time it makes an appearance in Mid-MO before dawn on Wednesday. This first round of rain may inhibit our risk for severe weather on Wednesday as the surface cold front works its way east, but if we can break through the "cap" that will be trying to shut off storm chances by mid-morning, there's a chance we could have another round of thunderstorms that form into a line along or ahead of the cold front Wednesday afternoon into early evening. If storms do become strong, the main concern would be isolated strong wind gusts. Given the conditional threat and low risk from the Storm Prediction Center (marginal), we will hold off on a Weather Alert Day for now as the signal for more damaging severe weather isn't there.

This line moves through Wednesday evening, but we'll see lingering showers wrapping around low pressure on Thursday along with plenty of clouds, keeping us at right around 60 degrees or just below for the day. We clear up skies more on Friday, bringing more sunshine and highs near 70. A weak system could bring a brief chance for showers Friday night into Saturday morning, but temperatures should remain in the mid-upper 60s on Saturday in the wake of it. We are dry and mild for Sunday with high temperatures in the lower 70s.
