Tracking scorching heat through Sunday

TODAY: Mostly sunny, hot and humid with highs in the low 90s. Heat indices between 98-103. A spot shower or storm is possible by late afternoon.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear and muggy. Lows in the low to mid-70s.

EXTENDED: High pressure keeps us hot and mostly dry through Sunday, with the heat index rising to 100-105 degrees. A Heat Advisory is in effect for Columbia, Jefferson City, and areas along I-70 through Sunday night. By next week, the upper level pattern will provide more northwesterly flow, sending multiple disturbances our way. We'll be tracking a cold front from the north on Monday that will bring sweeping changes to start the week. Showers and storms will be likely with highs only reaching the mid-80s. Tuesday looks like the driest day with the front to our south, but as the boundary retreats back north through the rest of the week, we can expect nearly daily storm chances. Highs will stay in the low to mid-80s each day with lows into the 60s at night.
