Tracking dangerous heat and humidity through Sunday

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy and mild with lows in the low 70s.

TOMORROW: Partly sunny with increasing humidity. Rain chances mainly stay south, but highs reach the low 90s with a heat index between 98-101 degrees as a warm front lifts north over the area.

EXTENDED: The front stays to our north along with the jet stream over the weekend, keeping the hot and humid conditions locked in through Sunday. Highs on both days reach the mid to upper 90s with heat indices in the 103-106 degree range, making it dangerous to be outside for long periods of time. A Heat Advisory is in place for our western counties west of Highway 63 through Sunday night, and a Weather Alert Day is in place through Sunday for the potential of extreme heat and humidity. Chances for storms will be limited until at least Sunday night as a front hovers over northern Missouri and southern Iowa. Disturbances along the front could trigger chances for storms each day through the middle of the week, especially for the northern half of the viewing area. Temperatures next week will be in the upper 80s to around 90.
