Messy weather heads back to mid-Missouri

TONIGHT: We're tracking increasing clouds overnight ahead out next storm system. Temperatures will fall into the mid 20s with breezy winds out of the south.

WEDNESDAY: We'll be dry and cold for the morning commute, but precipitation will build in by 10 am. Temperatures will be between 29-32 degrees where an icy mix of freezing rain and snow is expected to develop through the afternoon. A couple hours of freezing rain could lead to a light glaze on elevated surfaces but ice impacts will be far less than what fell last Friday. Through the afternoon, we're expecting a transition to rain and sloppy wet snowflakes. Temperatures at the surface will remain in the low 30s leading to slow accumulations-- mostly sticking to the grass before sunset and potentially sticking to roads through the evening. Precipitation isn't expected to be heavy so anything that does fall likely won't accumulate to an impactful amount. We're not expecting major impacts Wednesday evening.

EXTENDED: Late Wednesday night, the rain/snow mix is expected to kick east into central Illinois, with light drizzle and snow expected into Thursday morning. We're still expecting low impacts for Thursday morning. Into Thursday afternoon, colder air is expected to spill in from the northwest. This process looks to bring a lull of precipitation for a time, from late morning Thursday into the early evening. Overnight Thursday we're expecting to build back in, and colder temperatures to accompany the system. Accumulations are possible by Friday morning-- This looks to present the greatest potential for impacts. Snow will taper off Friday evening. It's still too early to pin down exact accumulations.
