Municipal election filing period ends, several candidates to run for City Council in Jefferson City

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The filing period for municipal elections in Missouri closed on Tuesday and non-charter cities saw their final candidates file for City Council and other positions.

Jefferson City released its list of candidates for city positions, including mayor.

Candidate filings opened on Dec. 6 for the April 4, 2023, municipal elections in Missouri.

The last day residents can register to vote in the April 4 election is March 8.

Ward 4 Councilman Ron Fitzwater is the only candidate who has filed to run for mayor in Jefferson City.

Mayor Carrie Tergin is unable to run because of term limits. She was elected in 2015 and served two consecutive terms. The mayor is elected for four years, with an eight-year consecutive term limit. A full four-year mayoral term must pass before they are eligible to serve as mayor again.

City Prosecutor Gaylin Carver and Municipal Judge Scott Evans are each running unopposed. Ward 4 Councilman Derrick Spicer, another incumbent, is also unopposed in his race.

  • Randy Hoselton
  • Jeff Ahlers

Ward 2

  • Aaron Mealy
  • Edith Vogel

Ward 3

  • Scott Spencer (Incumbent)
  • Treaka Young

Ward 5

  • Alicia Edwards
  • Mark Schwartz

Camdenton

The City of Camdenton also revealed its list of candidates for mayor and Board of Alderman. All candidates are incumbents and running unopposed:

  • Mayor John McNabb
  • Ward 1 Alderman Eric Faes
  • Ward 2 Alderwoman Brenda Weir
  • Ward 3 Alderman Mark Anderson
