Kansas City Power and Light District preparing for Super Bowl watch party
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Kansas City Power and Light District is preparing for a watch party after the Kansas City Chiefs stamped their ticket to their fourth Super Bowl appearance within the past five years.
Special Events Manager Victor Quintero said the district saw 20,000 people during last year's Super Bowl, when the Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35. Quintero said the district is expecting the same turnout during this year's match-up versus the San Francisco 49'ers, if not more.
Quintero said the district always keeps the possibility of the Chiefs going to the Super Bowl in the back of their minds
"You know in Kansas City, we're kind of good at this. We've been going to the Super Bowl a couple times now." He said. "We kind of have the plan in our back pockets just in case, we definitely had some things on hold and things like that."
The district had sold 10,000 tickets as of Wednesday, but tickets are still available for purchase through the district's website, according to Quintero. Celebrations will include food, drinks, contests, games as well as the chance to win signed Patrick Mahomes merchandise.
A performance from the musical duo Loud Luxury is also expected at 2:30.
Extra security will be present throughout the party, according to Quintero. People who attend will also have to have their bags checked and should not bring any oversized duffle bags, aerosol or weapons.
Quintero said she believes this year's party will help the community within Kansas City.
"As a community just always there's a tend to want us all to get together and celebrate our home team," Quintero said. "So, you know winning another super bowl it just feels like we're putting Kansas City on the map."
Quintero said she recommends people arrive at the event as early as they can to avoid congested parking.
