The Cardinals fell short of capturing a series win over the Diamondbacks on Sunday evening, despite winning their series opener against the defending National League Champions on Friday. A five-run fifth inning and a stellar team effort on the mound for Arizona led to a 5-0 loss for the Redbirds at Chase Field in the series finale.

After Miles Mikolas allowed just one hit and posted four scoreless frames to start his night on the mound, Arizona dealt all its damage in the fifth inning to end his outing. The Diamondbacks scored five runs in the frame, following a sacrifice fly, an RBI single, a two-RBI double and a wild pitch. All five of those runs were charged to Mikolas, who was given the loss in this game.

Offensively, St. Louis only recorded four hits and struck out eight times. Nolan Gorman, Nolan Arenado, Willson Contreras and Ivan Herrera were the only Cardinals to post a hit.

Arizona's Zac Gallen blanked the Redbirds for the first six innings of the game. Then, Joe Mantiply and Bryce Jarvis held St. Louis hitless in the final three frames of Sunday's action to clinch the series.

Up next - The Cardinals wrap up their six-game road trip with a visit to Oakland to face the Athletics in a three-game series. The series opener is scheduled for Monday, April 15 at 8:40 p.m.
