First quarter struggles doom Mizzou at Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (KMIZ)

Mizzou Women's Basketball dropped its eighth consecutive game after falling to Florida 86-70 on Thursday night. Robin Pingeton's crew now sits at 2-11 in conference play and holds an overall record of 11-15.

Florida put this game out of reach in the opening quarter. The Gators started the contest on a 15-3 scoring run and finished the first quarter with a 36-13 advantage. In the first six minutes of play, Florida drained all of its first 11 shots.

Four different Tigers scored in double figures, including Abbey Schreacke with a team-high 16 points. Mama Dembele, Grace Slaughter and Hayley Frank scored 15 points, 14 points and 12 points respectively in this contest.

Mizzou committed 21 turnovers in this game, and Florida turned those takeaways into 33 points. The Gators also finished the contest with more rebounds and a higher shooting percentage than the Tigers.

Up next - Mizzou returns home to host Ole Miss on Monday, Feb. 26 at 6 p.m.
