Mizzou drops road game at No. 1 South Carolina, loses fifth straight game

COLUMBIA, S.C. (KMIZ)

After starting SEC play with a 2-3 record, Mizzou Women's Basketball has now lost five conference games in a row, falling to top-ranked South Carolina 83-45 on the road. The Gamecocks are the only remaining women's college basketball team that is still undefeated this season. With this loss, Mizzou's record fell below the .500-mark to 11-12 overall.

Mizzou built a quick 6-0 lead after back-to-back three-pointers from Grace Slaughter and Ashton Judd, but a pair of South Carolina scoring runs in the first half put this game out of reach. After trailing 6-0 to start the game, the Gamecocks rattled off a 7-0 scoring run to take their first lead, and later in the first half, South Carolina ran away with the lead after stringing together an 18-2 scoring run. Mizzou trailed by 27 points at the break, eventually leading to a 38-point loss.

Slaughter, Judd and Abbey Schreacke all posted 12-point performances. However, the rest of Robin Pingeton's group only scored a combined nine points. Judd did finish with a double-double after grabbing 10 rebounds.

As a team, Mizzou shot just 28.3% from the field and turned the ball over 21 times. South Carolina turned those 21 turnovers into 28 points. The Gamecocks also ended this game with 20 offensive rebounds, 11 blocks and 15 steals.

Up next - the Tigers return to Mizzou Arena after their two-game road trip. Pingeton's crew will face Auburn on Sunday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m.
