Mizzou gets swept by Tennessee, SEC losing streak reaches four straight games

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (KMIZ)

No. 11 Mizzou Softball is leaving Sherri Parker Lee Stadium without a win in its three-game series with No. 9 Tennessee. The Volunteers clinched a sweep of the Tigers with a 4-0 victory on Sunday afternoon.

Larissa Anderson's crew only scored two runs in the series and were outscored by a total of 19 runs. Mizzou struggled at the plate during the weekend, especially against Karlyn Pickens. The Tennessee right-hander allowed just five hits in her two outings against Mizzou in the series and struck out 16 batters over those 12 innings of work.

Laurin Krings and Cierra Harrison also had some uncharacteristic performances in the circle, allowing seven earned runs and five earned runs respectively during their outings. Entering this weekend series, Harrison had only allowed 10 runs in her previous 12 appearances combined, and Krings had not allowed more than four runs in a game all season.

Maddie Gallagher scored the only two runs for the Tigers in the series, posting an RBI double and a solo home run in Saturday's game.

Mizzou's overall record still sits 16 games above the .500-mark, but the Tigers have now lost four straight SEC contests.

Up next - Anderson and company will look to get back on track on Wednesday, March 20 in a midweek rivalry game at Kansas. First pitch for that showdown is scheduled for 5 p.m.
