Mizzou receives commitment from former Illinois State wide receiver

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Mizzou Football is making its presence felt in the spring transfer portal window.
The Tigers have collected their second transfer portal commitment in as many days, landing wide receiver Xavier Loyd from Illinois State, per an announcement on social media. The Blue Springs native joins former Iowa tight end Gavin Hoffman as the two players who have transferred to Mizzou this spring.
Loyd had been contacted by multiple programs while in the transfer portal, including Oklahoma, Louisville, SMU, Wisconsin and more.
The 6-foot-3, 180-pound wide receiver had a breakout season with the Redbirds last year, compiling 66 catches for 912 receiving yards and six touchdowns. Before transferring to Illinois State for his sophomore campaign, he caught just one pass for 16 yards at Kansas State as a freshman.
Saturday's commitment adds some depth to MU's young wide receiver room, led by Mississippi State transfer Kevin Coleman Jr., Marquis Johnson and Joshua Manning.
According to On3, Mizzou's transfer portal class this offseason is the No. 9-ranked group in the nation and fourth-best in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
