NEW YORK, N.Y. (KMIZ)

The Royals have lost five of their last six games.

Kansas City (8-11) surrendered a go-ahead solo home run in the seventh inning to lose 4-3 against the New York Yankees (11-7). The Royals have won just two of its first six series this year.

Matt Quatraro's team is still searching for a spark at the plate to turn its early season struggles around. Kansas City is No. 27-ranked in runs scored (58), No. 28-ranked in batting average (.206) and No. 30-ranked in home runs (10) this season.

Salvador Perez gave the Royals a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the first frame. However, after tallying two hits in the opening inning, Kansas City recorded just three more for the remainder of the game.

The Yankees erased their early deficit with three unanswered runs in the third and fourth frames. Anthony Volpe hit a go-ahead, two-RBI double to gain the team's first advantage of the contest. Then, Cody Bellinger added another run-scoring double in the fourth frame to put the Yankees ahead by two runs.

Kyle Isbel and Jonathan India guided the Royals through a game-tying fifth frame with an RBI triple and RBI fielder's choice respectively, but Aaron Judge tagged John Schreiber for the game-deciding home run in the seventh inning.

Kris Bubic was awarded a no decision, following his 5.1-inning start on the mound. The left-hander allowed three earned runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out six batters.

Up next - Kansas City will complete its 10-game road trip with a four-game set in Detroit. First pitch for game one between the Royals and the Tigers is scheduled for Thursday, April 17 at 5:40 p.m.
