Tracking slightly cooler temps, and some rain chances to end the holiday weekend

TONIGHT: Warm and muggy tonight with overnight lows in the mid 70s. A slight chance for pop-ups exists south of I-70.

TOMORROW: A cold front moving through overnight will bring some much needed relief from the extreme heat. Temps will still be in the lower 90s, but will be cool enough to take us out of Weather Alert Day territory. The afternoon looks dry, but for counties west of Highway 63, a chance of storms late Sunday into Monday is possible along the cold fronts leading edge.

EXTENDED: Some lingering showers are possible on our Labor Day, but the majority of mid-Missouri will be dry to end the holiday weekend. The passing cold front may actually limit Monday highs to the upper 80s, among partly cloudy skies, which look to stick around through Wednesday. While the sunshine will persist, the cooler air is short lived as we warm right back up to the mid to upper 90s on Tuesday and Wednesday, though humidity looks to be kept to a minimum. The persistent high pressure pattern that's been bringing the extreme heat this week finally starts to break down late Wednesday, which increases rain and storm chances, particularly Thursday afternoon. The good news is that with the rain comes much cooler temperatures. High temps drop to the mid 80s Thursday and Friday, increasing towards the lower 90s on Saturday. Some lingering showers are possible Friday, but sunny skies return for next weekend.
