REPORTS: Chiefs trading OG Joe Thuney to Bears

KMIZ

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Chiefs are expected to bolster their NFL draft capital, courtesy of a deal with their NFC neighbor.

According to multiple reports, first from NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Kansas City is sending offensive guard Joe Thuney to the Chicago Bears for a 2026 fourth-round draft pick. This trade will clear $16 million in cap space for the franchise.

The four-time Super Bowl champion has been one of Kansas City's most consistent and impactful offensive linemen. Thuney, who was named the franchise's 2024 Derrick Thomas MVP Award winner, played 895 snaps at left guard last season, and then, he switched to left tackle during the home stretch of the regular season and playoffs to strengthen a weakness on the offensive line. According to Pro Football Focus, the 32-year-old recorded the 12th-best overall grade for NFL offensive guards (79.9) last season, including the 5th-best pass blocking grade (82.0) among 135 qualified players at his position.

The two-time, first-team All-Pro has also been consistent and durable, making 146 starts in nine career campaigns and missing just two regular season games.

The trade will not be officially processed until the NFL's new league year, which kicks off on March 12.
