Ehrich Chick leaving Tolton, taking head coaching job at Hickman

One of the most successful head coaches in Tolton baseball history is departing from the program to return to his alma mater. A school spokesperson confirmed to ABC 17 Sports on Monday that Ehrich Chick has informed Father Tolton Catholic High School that he will be stepping away from serving as its head baseball coach to accept the same position at Hickman.

The Hickman alum was hired as Tolton's head baseball coach in 2019 and led the Trailblazers to a 66-27 overall record during his tenure. Under Chick's leadership, Tolton won three district titles in four seasons, including the school's first state baseball championship in 2022, and never posted a losing record.

"We wish Coach Chick the best of luck at Hickman and appreciate all the hard work and dedication he has put into our program," a school spokesperson for Father Tolton Catholic High School said in an email reply to ABC 17.

Now, Chick gets the opportunity to coach the same team he played for in high school. He was an all-district and Missouri All-Star team selection as an infielder at Hickman before he signed to play college baseball at Colorado Mesa University. Chick even had a brief stint as an assistant coach with the Kewpies, serving as Hickman's hitting coach from 2015-16.

Chick will aim to restore Hickman's winning ways on the baseball diamond when the 2025 season arrives. The Kewpies ended the 2024 campaign with an 11-21 overall record, their first losing season in nearly a decade. Hickman's last district championship and trip to the Final Four was back in 2018.
