Mid-Missouri college basketball programs earn pair of NAIA Tournament berths
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Two local college basketball teams are going dancing in the NAIA Tournament.
William Woods Men's Basketball and Columbia College Women's Basketball both qualified for the NAIA Tournament, following AMC Tournament Championships. The Owls (28-2) earned the No. 2 seed and will face Dillard (19-11) in the opening round while the Cougars (28-3) clinched the No. 11 seed and will play Lewis-Clark State (25-6) in the first round.
Head Coach Jordan Ashton's team made history with Thursday's NAIA Tournament selection. William Woods earned its first NAIA Tournament berth in team history, highlighting a campaign where the Owls won their first-ever AMC Tournament and posted the program's most wins in a single season.
After capturing its fourth straight AMC Tournament championship, head coach Matt Moore's squad is making its eighth straight appearance in the national tournament, aiming to reach the second round for just the second time during that stretch.
William Woods battles Dillard in the first round of the NAIA Tournament on Friday, March 14 at 6 p.m. in West Palm Beach, Florida. Columbia College competes against Lewis-Clark State in Sioux City, Iowa on Friday, March 14 at 8 p.m.
