Mizzou’s Mark Mitchell not taken in NBA Draft; could still sign with a team

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Former Mizzou forward Mark Mitchell was not selected in the second and final round of the 2026 NBA Draft, on Wednesday night, but could still be signed by a team in the coming days.

The Kansas City, Kansas native came into the draft with projections of being a mid-to-late second round selection, but did not hear his name called at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York over the course of two days. Now, as a result, he will look to sign either a two-way contract or Exhibit 10 deal with an NBA team to continue the dream of taking his career to the next level.

Over the course of the pre-draft process, Mitchell managed to get his name around, as he worked out for the Charlotte Hornets, Sacramento Kings, Dallas Mavericks and the reigning NBA Champion New York Knicks. He also played in the Portsmouth Invitational, which is four-day tournament for graduating college seniors. It features the top 64 college prospects, who all compete in front of league scouts.

But, the former MU forward had been all over the map, as far as projections went, ahead of the Draft. He checked in as the No. 73 prospect overall in ESPN's Top-100 and No. 85 in CBS Sports' Top-100. Tankathon, a popular sports statistics website, had Mitchell down as the 72nd-best player available, while writers from the Ringer and the Athletic slotted him as the 45th-best and 68th-best player, respectively.

Tiger hoops hasn't had a player drafted since 2023, when former Mizzou standout Kobe Brown went to the Los Angeles Clippers with the final pick of the round. However, head coach Dennis Gates and company still have quite a few guys who have taken their talents to the next level, despite not being draft. That list of guys includes recent guards Tamar Bates, Caleb Grill and Sean East.

As of Wednesday night, there were no reported updates on where Mitchell may end up signing. Be sure to check back with the ABC 17 sports team for updates.
