Renegades open up the summer going 3-1 against Steamers

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Jefferson City Renegades started off the 2026 campaign with a 3-1 mark, taking the season-opening four-game set against the Sedalia Steamers with a 7-6 victory on Sunday.

First-year field manager Justin Buschjost's squad took a six-run lead in the early stages of the game, thanks - in part - to four RBI off the bat of Texas native Zeke Bullard. He helped his squad jump in front in the first inning with an RBI single into center and followed that up by with a two-run homer to right field in the third. Then, in the fourth, the Renegades blew the game wide open, as Bullard capped off the frame with a fly-out to bring in the team's sixth run.

All the while, Blair Oaks alum Nolan DeMilia kept Sedalia scoreless in his five innings of work for Jefferson City.

The Steamers did manage to cut the lead in half with a three-run home run in the top of the seventh and added on three more runs through the next few frames. However, the Renegades managed to hold them off just enough for their third win of the young season.

Up next - Jefferson City will travel to Sedalia, again, to face the Steamers on Thursday, June 4. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m.
