Mizzou Athletics unveils new student ticketing model

KMIZ

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mizzou students talked and Tiger Athletics listened.

On Tuesday, MU Athletics announced that it will roll out a new student ticketing model in the 2026-27 school year, in response to feedback given from the student body. The new model will rank students on a 'leaderboard' to determine who will get priority for football and men's basketball tickets.

In a statement, Mizzou said, "The 2025-26 athletics year proved we've outgrown the previous student ticketing model. Increased demand for games, coupled with growing enrollment at the University of Missouri, meant it was time to re-imagine the system."

The system is pretty simple. Students will be awarded 'loyalty points,' for attending any sporting events on campus. Those points will go towards their standing on a leaderboard and help give them priority for Mizzou football and men's basketball games. Mizzou Athletics said it is important note that once a student arrives to a home athletic event, they'll need to check in through their Mizzou Tigers app to earn those points.

Points will also be awarded to students at the start of the school year, based on seniority. Seniors/graduate students will start with 600, juniors with 400, sophomores with 200 and freshman with 0 loyalty points. Each Mizzou home game will be worth 50 points, with 20 additional points awarded for showing up to the game early and staying late in the game. Some games will be declared double-point games, starting at 100 points. There will also be opportunities before the first football game for all students to earn points.

Beginning in the 2026-27 school year, football and men's basketball tickets will also only be purchased on a single-game basis, rather than a year-long package. That way students will only be paying for the the game they actually get to attend. The athletic department said that if a students attended every home football and basketball game, they should expect to pay anywhere from $220 to $250 for the entire season.

However, all Olympic sports - including volleyball, soccer, cross country, swim & dive, women’s basketball, wrestling, gymnastics, track & field, tennis, softball, and baseball - will be free for all students, once they present their student ID for entry.

Mizzou Athletics also dove into how students should expect to get their tickets for football and hoops.

For Tiger football, all students will have a 72-hour window to request a ticket for that week's upcoming game, beginning on Friday (eight days prior) and ending on Monday (five days prior). Then, once that window closes, all the entries will be ranked on loyalty points and students will be notified via email, text message and push notification if they have received a ticket.

If a student receives a notification, they will have 24 hours to complete the purchase of that ticket at the link provided by Mizzou. Any un-purchased tickets will subsequently be offered to the student that is next in the ranking. MU said that students can expect football tickets to range from $10-$50 per game.

The student section will also be larger in the 2026 football season, as Mizzou announced it has expanded it to include Sections 314 and 315, as well as planning to return some students to the north end zone hill.

For Mizzou men's basketball, Tiger Athletics said it will be widely the same as it has been in previous years, except for one key change: students will purchase tickets, rather than claim them. The department also noted that not all games will have a cost to receive a ticket, but a ticket will still be required for admission. MU said that ticket prices will range from $5-$30 per game, depending on the quality and demand of the matchup.

Games throughout the season will grouped into blocks and students will be allowed to purchase tickets within each block. Mizzou Athletics will announce those blocks throughout the season via email, text message and push notification.

Within those blocks, students with the most loyalty points will receive a 72-hour window to purchase tickets, before the rest of the student. body gains access. Men's basketball tickets will also be sold on a single-game basis, just like football.

Once the school year ends, 25 percent of a student's points will carry into the next academic year.
