Mizzou softball triumphs in must-win boarder war match up

LAWRENCE, Kan.

On their charge back to the NCAA Regional round, the Tigers took down the Jayhawks in a must-win game, 4-2.

Mizzou was the first team around the bases thanks to a Sidney Forrester RBI single that brought Abby Carr home in the very first frame. The Tigers didn't let off the gas after the one, bringing a second score across in the next inning courtesy of a Stefania Abruscato sac fly.

Once they were up by two, Marissa McCann dialed up the pressure in the circle. She held the Jayhawks scoreless through five innings of work. But Kansas would not roll over so easily. With two runners aboard, Anna Soles smashed a bases clearing triple to the left field corner in the sixth inning.

With the go-ahead run in scoring position, Mizzou held its ground and stopped the run, going into the seventh knotted up at two.

After Abby Carr reached on a walk, the Columbia native and Rock Bridge Alum Abby Hay blasted a home run over the wall in right. Her fifth long ball of the season couldn't have come at a better time, as the Tigers were able to enter the bottom of the seventh ahead by two.

Carr's pitching was lights out once again, easily securing the final three outs to give Mizzou a much needed win.

Up Next - Mizzou returns to Columbia to take on South Carolina. First pitch for game one against the Gamecocks is set for 6 p.m. on Friday, April 17.
