COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou baseball team remains winless in Southeastern Conference action, after No. 7 Texas secured the series sweep over the Tigers with a 7-4 win in game one and a 7-1 victory in the nightcap of Saturday's doubleheader.

Once again, skipper Kerrick Jackson's starting pitching struggled in the loss. Senior Kaden Jacobi fell to 2-3 on the season, as he threw for 4.1 innings and allowed six earned runs on seven hits in MU's eighth-straight conference loss in game one.

The MU pitching staff has an SEC-worst 8.03 ERA through the start of conference play.

On the bright side, the Tiger bullpen did fair much better in game one of the doubleheader. St. Elizabeth alum Brock Lucas pitched for 3.2 innings and only allowed one earned run on three hits, while James Vaughn pitched a clean final inning for Mizzou, with three strikeouts.

Mizzou did hold the lead over No. 7 Texas at one point, as the Tiger managed to put up a four-piece in the second inning. Pierre Seals started off the scoring by reaching first on an error from the Longhorn first baseman, which plated Keegan Knutson. Right after that, true freshman Chris Patterson took the lead for MU with a three-run home run into center field. That was the first homer of his collegiate career.

However, that was the last time Jackson's crew was able to get a runner across home plate. Mizzou went 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position and stranded nine runners on base in game one.

Offensively, the Tigers were silent against the Longhorns in game two. Mizzou posted just two hits and struck out 11 times in 28 plate appearances.

The team's pitching staff did allow only five earned runs to Texas in the nightcap of this doubleheader, which was its lowest total in an SEC game this season. However, Brady Kehlenbrink was charged with the loss after giving up three of those five earned runs over the course of his 2.2-inning start.
