Cardinals fall in series rubber match to the White Sox
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Cardinal bats went quiet in the club's 5-1 loss to the Chicago White Sox on Sunday afternoon. St. Louis mustered just four hits in the game that cemented another series loss.
STL now has six series losses under its belt in 2024, as Sunday's game dropped the team to 15-19 overall.
Chicago took the early lead, courtesy of a sacrifice fly, in the second inning. However, St. Louis did manage to tie the game on a Wilson Contreras solo home run a couple innings later and held that tie until the seventh.
The seventh inning was a brutal one for the Cardinals. Pitcher Giovanny Gallegos allowed three earned runs for the Sox to regain the lead. Eloy Jimenez hit a solo home run to get the inning started and by the end of the frame Chicago had a four-run, 5-1, lead over St. Louis.
Gallegos is charged with the loss on the hill. He pitched just in the seventh inning, allowing those three earned runs on three hits.
The Cardinals didn't provide any run support at the dish, either. Brendan Donovan, Contreras, Lars Nootbarr and Masyn Winn were the only birds to register a hit on Sunday.
Up next - St. Louis will stay home to host the New York Mets for a three-game series. First pitch in game one is slated for 6:45 p.m. on Monday, May 6.
