Kansas City falls short of winning second-straight series

DETROIT, Mich. (KMIZ)

The Kansas City Royals fell short of winning the series against Detroit on Sunday afternoon, falling 4-1 at Comerica Park. Despite the loss, skipper Matt Quatraro and company have still won four out of its last six games.

The bats went cold for the Royals in the series rubber match, getting out-hit 10-5 in the loss.

In the first inning, shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. grabbed ahold of the lead for his team with an RBI single to center field for a 1-0 lead. However, that was the only lead the boys in blue would see all day.

In the home half of the first, Nelson Perez hit a two-run homer to right field, which gave the Tigers a one-run lead. That would have been enough, itself, but Detroit plated two more runs to cushion the lead.

KC pitcher Michael Wacha allowed all four of those runs on nine hits in Sunday's loss. He fell to 1-3 overall in 2024.

Up next - the Royals will travel to Toronto to face start up a series with the Blue Jays. First pitch is set for 6:07 p.m. on Monday, April 29.
