Strong pitching lifts Vanderbilt to series-clinching win over Mizzou

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou bats were no match for the arm of Vanderbilt standout Bryce Cunningham on Friday night. The Commodore pitcher struck out a career-high 12 batters on the way to his team's 4-0 win over the Tigers.

Cunningham and reliever Miller Green limited MU to just one hit in the series-clinching win at Hawkins Field. With the victory, No. 7 Vanderbilt's home win streak extended to 13 games.

On the flip side, the loss dropped Mizzou down to 10-17 overall in 2024. Head coach Kerrick Jackson and company are now also just 1-7 in SEC action.

Jackson's team has now struggled at the dish for two-straight games. During Thursday night's series opener, Vanderbilt starter Greysen Carter threw 11 strikeouts and allowed just one run on three hits in the first win of the series. In the second game, Cunningham picked up right where his teammate left off.

The only Tiger to register a hit against the Commodores on Friday night was Jeric Curtis with a single to left field.

Mizzou pitcher Logan Lunceford dropped to 1-2 on the season, despite punching a season-high five strikeouts. He allowed two earned runs in his five innings of action.

Up next - Mizzou will look to avoid getting swept in the final game of the series on Saturday. First pitch in slated for 1 p.m. in Nashville.
