LOS ANGELES, Calif. (KMIZ)

The Kansas City Chiefs had a few reasons to celebrate on Sunday evening, as the team finished off with a 13-12 win over the Chargers to end the regular season. In addition to that win, defensive tackle Chris Jones celebrated a pay day at SoFi Stadium.

Many KC starters sat out Sunday's game, but Jones was playing for financial purposes. In the third quarter, he sacked backup quarterback Easton Stick, which put the d-end at 10.5 sacks on the year. That sack was more than just a good play, it was a $1.25 million play. Jones earned his incentive in that win over Los Angeles and, as a result, the Kansas City sideline erupted, celebrating with their teammate.

One of the guys who sat out against the Chargers was tight end Travis Kelce. It was a notable sit-out as he was just 16 yards shy of another 1,000 yard receiving season. Since he did not play, he ended a streak of seven-straight 1,000 yard receiving seasons.

After the game, head coach Andy Reid said that Kelce didn't want to be selfish in playing and chasing records.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes also sat out, on Sunday. As a result, former Mizzou star Blaine Gabbert got his first start since 2018. He went 15-30 for 154 yards and one interception. He did have his clutch moment, too. Kansas City was down 12-10 in the fourth quarter, but Gabbert had a couple of big scrambles to help set up a Harrison Butker game-winning field goal.

Up next - the Chiefs will play in the AFC Wild Card. The game is scheduled to be played at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. The opponent is still to be determined.
