Reports: Mizzou quarterback plans to enter the transfer portal

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Per a report from ESPN, Mizzou quarterback Jake Garcia will enter the transfer portal. It'll be the second time that he's entered the portal in his career, as he transferred to MU after spending two seasons at Miami.

He came to Columbia with intentions of competing with starting quarterback Brady Cook and backup Sam Horn for the QB1 job, but Cook separated himself as the clear starter.

Garcia never hit the field for the Tigers in his one season in the black and gold, despite getting some action in his time as a Hurricane. He started one game for the Canes and threw for 950 yards and seven touchdowns with the team through both 2021 and 2022.

The quarterback will have three years of eligibility remaining for his next destination.

He is the second Mizzou reserve quarterback to hit the transfer portal, following the conclusion of the regular season. True freshman Gabarri Johnson announced he will transfer to Oregon State, just days before Garcia's news.
