Mizzou women outlast Illinois in Braggin’ Rights win

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou women's basketball team squeezed out a 69-66 win over the rival Fighting Illini for a Braggin' Rights win, on Sunday. With the victory, head coach Robin Pingeton and company improved to 8-4 on the season.

It was a good bounce-back win, after losing by 28 points to Kansas State just seven days prior. Pingeton said, more than anything, the game against Illinois was about proving something to themselves.

Guard Mama Dembele led the scoring charge for MU with a team-high 20 points on 53 percent shooting from the field. She also added on three rebounds and four assists. Fifth year forward Hayley Frank was the only other Tiger into double-digit scoring, as she tallied 13 points off of four 3-pointers. She was just one board shy of a double-double, ending with nine rebounds, as well.

Illinois did make a run for Mizzou's lead at the end of the game, as Pingeton's squad did not hit a field goal in the final 2:34 of the ball game. MU did just enough to keep it a three-point ball game and secure that win, though.
