Mizzou WBB survives Tennessee Tech at Daytona Beach Classic

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou women's basketball team escaped an upset by one point, in Friday's 66-65 win over Tennessee Tech at the Daytona Beach Classic.

Three Tigers hit double-digit scoring, despite the close contest. Freshman Grace Slaughter led the scoring effort with 18 points, Mama Dembele was behind her with 16 and Hayley Frank recorded 10.

Slaughter had a perfect night going 8-for-8 from the field and 2-for-2 from 3-point range. She also added on three rebounds.

Despite that solid shooting effort, turnovers were a problem from the start. The Tigers turned the ball over 10 times in the first half, alone. MU did improve in the final two quarters, turning the ball over just three times.

Head coach Robin Pingeton's group was down by five points with just minutes left to play, but came back to get that one point win. Her team improved to 5-1 on the season.

Up next - Mizzou will continue Daytona Beach Classic play with a match up with Kent State on Saturday, Nov. 25. Tip off is at 4:45 p.m. CT.
