COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Battle Spartans are still searching for their first win of the Matthew Herman era, and will look to make that happen in a home opener against Helias. The two teams will meet Friday in our SportsZone Football Friday game of the week.

Battle took a tight loss in week two, 37-34 at Capital City, after opening the season with a big loss at Park Hill.

"Little details are really not little, they're the big things," Herman said. "We're there, we're at the party, we just have to finish it. Whether that's a tackle here, a tackle there, a block here, a catch, a throw, whatever it is, just make sure we finish."

On the other hand, Helias started the season 2-0 with dominate wins over Hannibal and Hickman. Herman said it's going to take playing perfect football to come out with a win on Friday night.

"One thing about Helias is they're not going to make many mistakes," Herman said. "If they do make a mistake, we have to hold them accountable for that and make a big play off of that."

Although Helias is off to a good start to the season, head coach Chris Hentges says it's important to take it one week at a time. He said the team is getting into the heart of their schedule with Battle, Cardinal Ritter and Rock Bridge in the next three weeks.

"Just be 1-0, you know win the week and don't get caught looking down the road," Hentges said. "Just stay laser focused on what we have and the task at hand. From the time we give them the scouting report on Monday to the time we kick off on Friday, as coaches we don't talk about opponents down the road."
