Nation’s top defensive line prospect commits to Mizzou

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Monday was the decision that Mizzou football fans had waited months for. Five-star defensive lineman Williams Nwaneri made his commitment at Lee's Summit North High School and did end up sticking with his hometown team.

Nwaneri will join head coach Eli Drinkwitz's 2024 recruiting class, following his commitment ceremony. According to 247sports' rankings, the Missouri-native is the No. 1 defensive line recruit in the nation and the No. 3 prospect overall. He picked MU over Georgia, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Oregon.

The 6-foot, more than 250-pound lineman is the first five-star recruit to commit to Coach Drinkwitz's 2024 class. He will join four-star wide receiver James Madison, four-star linebacker Brian Huff, three-star cornerback Cameron Keys and eight other recruits in a big couple of months of recruiting for MU.

The Tigers are also targeting another five-star Missouri-native. St. Louis University High School wide receiver Ryan Wingo is now at the top of the list for Coach Drinkwitz and company. He is expected to announce his commitment in December.
