Battle High School hires new football coach
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Just in time for the 2023 season, the Battle football team has its new head coach. The athletic department announced that Hickman alum Matthew Herman will take the helm of the program.
The news came after former Battle head coach and Mizzou football alum Jonah Dubinski stepped down from his position at the end of July.
It will not be Herman's first time on the campus of Battle High School. After he graduated from Hickman and played a couple of years at Culver-Stockton college, he began his coaching career with the Spartans in 2013. In his time there he served as an offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach and the JV head coach. The teams he was a part of won the class five state championship in 2014, as well as six district titles through his tenure.
Herman and his family moved to Hawaii in 2021 where he served as the associate head coach, special teams coordinator, quarterbacks coach and strength coordinator at Moanalua High School. The team won its first OIA Division 1 regular season championship while he was there.
"Having strong roots at Battle since its inception, I care deeply about this program and know the great things this Battle Family can achieve," Herman said in a press release on Monday. "I am looking forward to the opportunity to represent the Battle community as its next Head Football Coach."
The Spartans will kick off the 2023 season in 18 days, on the road, against Park Hill. Kick off is on August 25 at 7 p.m.
