Fulton falls short of state championship appearance; Hornets to play for third place

OZARK, Mo. (KMIZ)

After an impressive playoff run, the Fulton Hornets baseball team fell short of a trip to the Class 4 state championship due to a 5-1 loss to John Burroughs in Wednesday's semifinal matchup.

The Bombers put an early run on the board in the first and tacked on three more in the third, plus one in the fourth. Fulton's sole run on the day came off of the bat of Walker Gohring in the fourth inning. John Burroughs only put together two more total hits on the day then the Hornets.

On the mound, senior pitcher Dustin Hagens Jr. threw a full seven innings allowing five runs on eights hits and picking up three strikeouts.

Up next, Fulton will now play for third place in Class 4 on Thursday at 4 p.m. against the loser of Excelsior Springs and Springfield Catholic.
