Sunday Sit-down with Aaron Ladd

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

ABC 17 Sports Director Nathalie Jones brought on KSHB sports anchor Aaron Ladd in this week's edition of Sunday Sit-down.

The two broke down Kansas City's 2023 NFL Draft, from top to bottom. Ladd noted that the Chiefs' first pick in this year's draft, defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah, fits the bill for the KC defense.

"He brings that motor he brings that high intensity," he said. "When KC drafts these defensive guys they like the size, they like the fit, they like the versatility to be able to move guys along, play different techniques along, but they also liked that that motor right? That's something that we saw in George Karlaftis after the first round last year."

Five of Kansas City's seven draft picks came on the defensive side of the ball, however, the Chiefs did find a new weapon for MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes. General manager Brett Veach and company picked up former SMU wide receiver Rashee Rice with the No. 55 overall pick.

"He fits the bill. Once again, if you look at some of his measurables, you look at the deep threat, what they like to do on the offensive side of the ball with Patrick Mahomes giving them a lot of different styles of receiver. I was kind of vocal on Twitter, after the first round, when fans were mad that KC didn't trade up. Yes, you needed a wide out who is going to compete, but KC wasn't in a desperate need to move up with Travis Kelce doing everything that he does for the offense."

Ladd added that the 2023 draft class may be one that fans need to wait to see results from, unlike the immediate results they saw from the 2022 class in last year's Super Bowl season.
