Dennis Gates adds former Iowa State guard Caleb Grill from the portal
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Dennis Gates continued the offseason work in the transfer portal by making a big addition Thursday afternoon in former Iowa State senior guard Caleb Grill.
Throughout his three-year career at Iowa State, Grill has averaged 6.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game while shooting 38% from the field and 34% from three-point range. Grill also spent his sophomore season at UNLV with head coach T.J. Otzelberger where he averaged 9.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists.
Grill's departure from the Cyclones came after he was dismissed from the program for “a failure to meet expectations.” His dismissal stemmed from a technical foul that was called for shoving.
Grill commented on the incident saying, “One day, when I am brave enough, I hope to be able to share my story about my mental health and my mental illness I have been battling through all season. Unfortunately, I said something that I regret which has cost me the opportunity to finish out my dream at lowa State."
Grill was choosing between MU and WVU after his visits to both last week.
Grill comes to Mizzou with one year of eligibility remaining. He becomes Gates' third pick up from the transfer portal joining Indiana guard Tamar Bates and Colorado State guard John Tonje.
