Mizzou WBB tops Illinois State in first round WNIT action

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou women's basketball team took down Illinois State in the first round of the WNIT, 61-51, at Mizzou Arena.

The Redbirds kept it close with the Tigers until the end, but a scoring attack led by Hayley Frank and Sara Rose-Smith pushed MU over the top. Frank ended with 15 points and Smith had 13.

It is the third-consecutive year that MU is making a WNIT run. The Tigers improved their overall record in the tournament to 6-10 with Thursday night's win.

Up next - Mizzou will face the winner of the game between Western Kentucky and Kansas. Those two teams meet on Friday.
