Mizzou softball sweeps Illinois in Braggin’ Rights doubleheader

COLUMBI, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou softball team got back in the win column on Tuesday in a doubleheader sweep against Illinois. The pair of wins were led by strong pitching performances from Jordan Weber and Laurin Krings.

In the second game of the day, Krings tossed a complete-game shutout in the circle. She finished with a season high 11 strikeouts and allowed just three hits. It is her fifth game of the season with five or more strikeouts.

In the first game, Weber pitched a complete game, as well, with five strikeouts, holding Illinois to just two runs on three hits. The win was her longest outing of the 2022-23 season.

After getting shutout in a three-game series against Kentucky over the weekend, the MU offense heated up. The Tigers put up three runs in the first win of the day and seven in the second.

Alex Honnold had one RBI in each game on Tuesday. In game two, Julia Crenshaw and Kara Daly also brought runners in.

Up next - Mizzou will travel to Gainesville to meet the Florida Gators for a weekend series. First pitch is at 5 p.m. CT on Friday.
