Former Tolton wrestling star transfers to Mizzou

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Former Tolton wrestling star Brant Whitaker has transferred to Mizzou. He was one of three additions MU announced on Thursday.

Cole Gripka and Joe Mylin also signed with the Tigers.

Whitaker was a three-time state champion in high school. He won his first state title at Boonville as a sophomore. He went on to win two more at Tolton - going 62-0 during his junior and senior seasons.

Whitaker signed with NC State during the spring of 2021, but he will now continue his collegiate career at MU. An MU spokesperson said Whitaker will use this as a redshirt season. He will be eligible to compete starting in the 2022-23 season.

Also on Thursday - an MU spokesperson confirmed All-American wrestler Brock Mauller is redshirting this season in order to focus on freestyle training. Mauller has a 83-8 record during his tenure with the Tigers, but he has not competed at all this season. He will have two years remaining of eligibility.
