Helias wipes the slate clean following the perfect season

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Helias Crusaders started up summer workouts as the reigning class four state champions, however, if you ask the team, that win means nothing for this season.

"As I told them, that's not going to bring us one win this year," Helias head coach Chris Hentges said.

Hentges added that the wins will come as a result of the hard work the team has put in throughout the winter, spring, and the work they will put in throughout the summer.

"We just want to get better each day," Hentges said. "Unfortunately, we had a lot of junior varsity games canceled last year and so we have a lot of guys who don't have a lot of game experience that are going to be called upon to play varsity football this year. How we make practice, the intense environment we make practice, the competitive atmosphere we can create, is going to be really important for our success."

The Crusaders' 2021 season is set to kick off on August 27 against Hannibal.
