Former Mizzou coordinator returns to the SEC

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (KMIZ)

Former Mizzou offensive coordinator Josh Heupel will be making his return to the SEC East as the new head coach of the Tennessee Volunteers.

On Wednesday the program announced Heupel accepted a six-year contract for $4 million per year.

The hire comes just over a week after the athletic department released former head coach Jeremy Pruitt.

Heupel coached at Mizzou for two season, before taking his first head coaching job at UCF in 2017. He finished his career with the Knights with a 28-8 record, going 12-1 in his first season.

Heupel will return to Faurot Field for the first time on Oct. 2, when the Tigers host the Volunteers.
