Patrick Mahomes clears concussion protocol; set to play on Sunday

KANSAS CITY, Mo (KMIZ)

Patrick Mahomes cleared stage five of the NFL's concussion protocol, which clears him to play in the AFC Championship game on Sunday.

The quarterback took a hit to the back of the head against the Cleveland Browns on Jan. 17, which took him out for the remainder of the game.

On Friday, Mahomes said that team doctors went through all the necessary testing and protocols and determined there should be no lingering effects from the hit.

Mahomes practiced on a limited basis throughout the week.
