Mizzou football coach Eli Drinkwitz gives July update

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mizzou football coach Eli Drinkwitz said his team is still preparing to start the season on Sept. 5 against Central Arkansas.

"I'm not going to waste my time on hypotheticals," Drinkwitz said in a Zoom news conference on Wednesday.

Coach Drinkwitz also used his platform to encourage people to wear masks. He said he believes it's good public health policy.

"Does it solve all the problems? I don’t know. I’m a football coach," Drinkwitz said. "I guess I’m frustrated with the fact that when people argue against it - it’s like why are we not willing to try it?"

Drinkwitz added it's caused unnecessary division in the United States.

"You’ve got both sides rooting against each other," Drinkwitz said. "I’m just rooting for the United States of America. I’m just rooting for us to beat the disease. I don’t care who’s right or wrong."
