Candidates announced for area city council, school board races
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Tuesday was the deadline for candidates to file in statewide races in the April 8 election and a number of local entities have announced their respective candidates.
Jefferson City Council
According to information from the city, the following people filed to run in city elections:
- Ward 1: Incumbent Jeff Ahlers
- Ward 2: Incumbent Aaron Mealy
- Ward 3: Derek Thomas and Erica Choinka
- Ward 4: Julie Allen and Kathryn Harness
- Ward 5: Shane Kempeter
Municipal Judge Scott Evans filed for reelection, as did City Prosecutor Gaylin Carver.
Columbia Board of Education
Four candidates have filed for the two available seats on the Columbia Board of Education:
- Erica Dickson
- Ken Rice
- Board President Suzette Waters
- Jessica Chambers, who filed on Tuesday
Jefferson City Board of Education
Two spots are open in the Jefferson City Board of Education race. Board Vice President Erika Leonard and Board member Anne Bloemke-Warren filed for reelection earlier this month.
Elections in Camdenton
Multiple filings have occurred in Camdenton’s elections, according to an email from Camdenton Assistant City Administrator Renee Kingston.:
- Ward 1: Incumbent Eric Faes
- Ward 2: Incumbent Brenda Weir and Dax Beaman
- Ward 3: Incumbent Mark Anderson
- Mayor: Incumbent John McNabb and Daniel Ousley
- Special Road District “R”: Incumbent Kerry Shannon
Charter cities
Tuesday’s deadline does not include charter cities and counties. Columbia is a charter city and its deadline to file is 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14. Candidate election packets can be picked up at the City Clerk’s office.
