First day to officially file for April 8 Columbia elections is Oct. 29

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The City of Columbia in a Wednesday press release reminded residents that the first day to file for the April 8 election is Oct. 29.

Races in April for the city include mayor and the Wards 3 and 4 council seats. Election packets for potential candidates can be picked up at the City Clerk’s Office.

The packet includes the petition form and other documents that will need to be completed as part of the filing process, according to the city’s website. It can be picked up from 8 a.m.-noon and 1-5 p.m., excluding weekends and city holidays, the release says. The deadline to file is 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14.

Three candidates have announced their intent to run for mayor, including incumbent Barbara Buffaloe, Tanya Heath and Blair Murphy. Ron Graves announced his intent to run for the Fourth Ward seat; that seat is currently held by Nick Foster.

Candidates for Ward 3 and Ward 4 must obtain at least 50 signatures from residents who reside and are registered voters of that same ward, the release says. Candidates running for mayor must obtain at least 100 signatures from residents and registered voters of the City of Columbia, according to the release.
