A filing period for Boone County Public Administrator will reopen next week after a candidate withdrew within two days of the end of the initial filing period, according to Boone County Clerk Brianna Lennon.

The last day to file for the Aug. 6 primary was Tuesday, but it will reopen from Tuesday, April 2 through Friday, April 5. Filings from the county clerk’s office shows that Republican Nancy L. Bohannon withdrew from the race on Tuesday. With Bohannon’s withdrawal, there are currently no Republicans in the primary.

State law indicates new filing period between the Tuesday after the filing deadline and the following Friday are allowed if a candidate withdraws within two days prior to the filing deadline.

In the Democratic primary, incumbent Sonja Boone and Chimene Schwach are running. Boone has been the public administrator since Jan. 1, 2017. Those who are elected to the office serve four-year terms. Boone ran unopposed in 2020. In 2016, Boone defeated Schwach in the Democratic primary by fewer than 800 votes (6,134-5,342, or 53.45% to 46.55%) and there were no Republicans that ran.

Filing for county offices occurs in the office of the County Clerk, Room 236 at the Boone County Government Center.
