Absentee voting opportunities on the weekends in Boone County

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

No-excuse absentee voting for the April municipal election began this week on March 19 and the Boone County Clerks office wants to give people the opportunity to exercise their constitutional right to vote.

People will have another opportunity to cast their vote on Sunday at Douglas High School from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Boone County Clerks will also be available on March 30 at the Southern Boone Library on Ashland and the Centralia Library from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Citizens were able to vote inside the Columbia Mall on Saturday during the no-excuse absentee voting period. Boone County Clerk Brianna Lennon said the county sees an average of 60 and 70 voters a day at the Boone County Government Center.

The Boone County Clerks office is giving people the opportunity to cast their votes on the weekends if they are unable to come to the clerks office during normal hours.

"They can't make it to our office during normal hours," said Lennon. "And we had 66 people come out here. So that was actually above what we'd been expecting. It was really great."

This is second time the Boone County Clerks office set up polls inside the Columbia Mall after they set up there last April and they've anticipated more people showing up.

"In anticipation of 2024 and having higher turnout, we have already booked today for the April election, but we also have the second Saturday before the election booked for the August primary and the November general election," said Lennon.

On the ballot for the election on April 2, there is a vote for a county wide property tax and ballots in Centrailia and Hallsville will ask voters to approve use taxes equal to their sales tax rate.
