Groups plan to host local events for National Voter Registration Day

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Missouri NAACP will partner with the National Association of Colored Women's Clubs (NACWC) to hold local events Tuesday for National Voter Registration Day.

Both groups plan to hold two voter registration events along with a "Rally to Action" in Jefferson City.

Missouri NAACP President Nimord Chapel said, "We encourage everyone to let their voices be heard at the Rally to Action on September 20th."

Voter registration events:

  • Lincoln University, Scruggs University Center, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • The Linc, 7 to 9 p.m.

Rally to Action details:

  • Jefferson City NAACP office, 5 to 6 p.m.

The deadline voter registration deadline for Nov. 8 election is Oct. 12. Missourians can check the status of their voter registration through the Missouri Secretary of State's website.

Chelsea Robinson, LOVE President, NACWC said, "Each person who exercises their right to vote benefits not only themselves and their family, but our community, our state, and our nation. I encourage you to get out and vote on November 8th."

National Voter Registration Day comes amid a lawsuit to pause the state's new voter ID law.

The Missouri NAACP is among the groups trying to block the law, which the group claims create barriers for disadvantaged people to vote.
